1996 SVT Mustang Cobra

Matt's Mystic

Update, 6/2/2005: I sold the Mustang. After owning it for almost 7 years, 70,000 miles, and 25 track days, I signed it over to a new owner today. I'm a little sad to see it go, but it's lost its magic for me and I haven't driven it much at all in the past year.

Mystic Cobra

This shot showcases the awesome Mystic finish. The car's color changes as the viewing angle changes. Most of the time the car looks purple or dark green, and red, blue, and gold are also visible. Mystic was available for the 1996 model year only.

Race Day

Here's the car with a set of black powdercoated Cobra R wheels mounted. I decided that I didn't like them and later sold them. This is at Sears Point when I was there running with the Touring Car Club from southern CA.

Gettin my speed on

Here I am gettin' my speed on in turn 10 at Sears. Thanks to Slib for the action pic.

Mods

The car had a Griggs Racing GR-40 suspension system installed: K-member, torque arm, panhard bar, the works. This system worked exceedingly well on track - the car was predictable and had a ton of grip. Highly recommended for those sticking with the Mustang platform. Other miscellaneous stuff included Sparco seats, big aluminum radiator, Steeda shifter, lightweight flywheel and dual kevlar clutch, aluminum driveshaft, and 98 Cobra wheels. I had a bunch of BS on here about a Pro 5.0 shifter and Eibachs - call me paranoid.

About the Mustang Cobra

Cobras are produced by Ford's Special Vehicle Team (SVT). Typically, less than 10,000 are built each year. Upgrades over the GT model include a 32-valve version of Ford's 4.6 liter V8 engine, bigger disc brakes, and unique wheels, hood, and bumpers. New Mustang Cobras are only available from SVT-certified Ford dealerships.
